      Software Engineer II Interview

      8 Mar 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Intuit (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2022

      Interview

The recruiter called me to give me all the info she thought I would need. They would give me a backend or a full-stack assignment, and I would have 90 min to solve it. The expectation was to implement the main part of the assignment during that time, and she said that candidates can't deploy the application due to the small amount of time. I implemented the backend assignment. I set up a database, used an ORM, and set up 2 endpoints which I was able to demo, and they worked as they should. I was starting to set up my first unit test when my time went up. Because I was told an interviewer would go over the problem later and I would be able to implement missing pieces, the unit tests, for example, I didn't think that would be a big deal. However, the hours that were previously reserved to go over the assignment and make adjustments or finish the testing implementation, ended up being to solve different coding questions. I was able to solve both questions. In the last interview with the manager, I honestly could tell he didn't like me right the way. He was trying to challenge me with DevOps questions on the demo. I nailed all his questions about the project that I implemented, so he started to test my limits, I thought ok, but that shouldn't be expectations. In the last interview with him, he told me Intuit was going more for a new model of engineering where all the engineers would master all aspects, including DevOps as well, and on his team that was something new and they were learning those skills as they are migrating for that style. I was never told I should have DevOps skills for that role at Intuit, I would never be willing to waste 5 and half hours of my day to do the onsite if that was one of the requirements. It is quite rare to find a full stack with DevOps experience, and I didn't lie about it, I told you I didn't have that experience yet, but I would love to have the chance to learn. The recruiter said they didn't make an offer because I didn't have DevOps experience. Also said I didn't demonstrate programming fundamentals skills. I solved everything they gave to me. What a waste of time.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Intuit (Petah Tikva)

      Interview

I had my first java technical interview on a video call. The questions were basic - about OOP, exceptions, async calls, Spring IOC, certain Spring annotations. After that I received a task and three days to do it. The task was about building quite basic REST service, so the key requirement was maturity of code. On the second video call we discussed my work and corrected some places live. After that I sent back even more enhancements and additionally an asyc implementation with Flux

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Intuit (Toronto, ON) in Aug 2024

      Interview

I was reached out by an awesome Intuit Recruiter (Aleksandra Kesser) on LinkedIn. Round 1: Standard Phone Screen. Questions on Data Structure and Algorithms After the Tech Screen Round, the next step was called the "craft round" which consisted of several interviews spanning 5 hours. The recruiter made sure I was well prepared going into the craft round and even set up a prep call one week before my craft interview. This call actually helped me get a good understanding of what was expected of me and it would later help me during the interviews. The craft round consists of a small presentation and doing a coding exercise to build upon requirements given to you. It was followed by multiple interviews with different engineers where you're questioned on your coding exercise and other standard fundamental questions. The last round is with the hiring manager and it is more of a behavioral round. After the final interviews, Aleks reached out with the feedback and she was very empathetic and understanding. She heard my concerns and made sure they were addressed. A very people-centric approach, which is very rare these days. At no point in the process I felt like I was left by myself. Overall, the experience was really smooth. From the initial screen to the offer stage, Aleks was always communicative, transparent, and supportive. The TA team made sure that my interviews were scheduled as per my availability and were really flexible. One of the best candidates experience till this date. The whole candidate experience was very welcoming and set the bar really high for me. A big shout out to Aleksandra Kesser and her team!
