      Windows Desktop Support Engineer Interview

      8 Mar 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Jane Street (New York, NY) in Feb 2013

      Interview

Two initial 1 hour technical and cultural phone screens, that completely failed to identify that there wasn't a fit, followed by a a full day on site interviews "meeting the team". The on-site interview was a waste of my time, as I was there from 9am until 1pm, interviewing for a position that wasn't a fit. I felt like the management at Jane Street should have looked at my resume and made a determination that there was no match between what I wanted to do and what the position at Jane St really was.

      Question 1

The networking questions were tough, but fair. The manager who asked me VBScript questions expected me to know the minutiae of VBscript syntax when it is 1) a legacy language that's going out of style faster than you can say "PowerShell", 2) all of that stuff is readily available on the internet and in reference books, so that you can fill your head with more substantive things.
