      Quantitative Researcher Interview

      26 Dec 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Jane Street in Dec 2014

      Interview

I applied online and got a reply the next day asking me to schedule an interview. I scheduled it for the week after and the called me at the exact time we agreed upon. The interviewer asked me about my ongoing Math Ph.D. research and even though he didn't understand much of my field, he asked me to be specific about what I was talking about. Following this, he asked me two math puzzles that looked easy but ended up begin a bit more challenging than expected. I had to be pointed in the right direction before successfully answering the questions.

      Interview

Fun and filled with unexpected questions. The questions rely on fast thinking and fast calculations, and sometimes intuition because there is no sufficient time for me to work through the whole problem.

      Interview

We started with a bit of small talk, followed by some probability questions. Ended with some basic algebra questions, Make sure to ask questions if you have any. Good experience, feels like the interviewer was trading.
