I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Mattel in Mar 2018
Interview
You apply online through their site around January-February, then hear back in March-April.
Interviewed over Skype with senior management of packaging design team.
I personally only had to do the one interview, and received the job the same day! Sometimes you have to do multiple interviews if a team believes you have skill but would fit another team better.
Pretty standard interview talking about how your exprienced lined up with the position at hand. Second round was a test. Had to use keyshot to create a rendering based on their specifications. You're in a room with one person monitoring. Your screen will be recorded so they can see your process.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Mattel (El Segundo, CA) in Dec 2014
Interview
My agency got me an interview but the whole progress had an uneasy feeling. The beginning was normal procedure - We scheduled a time and day for an in-person interview. It would take me at least an hour to get there, so I left the house 2 hours earlier. When I got there they were very surprised to see me because they asked for a reschedule an hour before. Since I was just...there, they just proceeded with the interview (which went well, if almost an hour of talking is a good sign). After I got back home I called my agency to update them. Apparently my agency had been trying to contact me about the reschedule but my phone did not receive them. Of all days! They were frustrated at me, but what I can I do, that reschedule was extremely short noticed. After sending thank you letters, I never heard from them back until almost 2 months later, saying that they decided not to hire anyone.
