Out of all the interviews I have done for a paralegal position, this was perhaps the coldest and most intense. I was selected for an interview with a junior solicitor and team leader after an initial phone consultation. Minutes into the interview, I immediately had a gut feeling that this was not a good environment for a student paralegal, or someone wanting to gain experience in the legal industry. I felt like I was being interrogated by the senior solicitor rather than being interviewed on my merit. To my shock, they began quizzing me on the elements of law that lawyers would have to establish for a successful claim in negligence. For a paralegal interview, this is grossly disproportionate and unnecessary. This experience overall scared me away from the firm.
