They post ads on Craiglist. You apply. They call you and ask when can you start. You say tomorrow. They say come in. You're hired. There was basically no interview process and when they have a large project they will take in anyone. Of course, then when the project is over you don't hear from them again for months. And they don't respond to emails asking when another project will be coming up.
