      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Penguin Random House (New York, NY) in Dec 2024

      Interview

Interviewers were so friendly and communicative. Willing to work with you. The only confusing part was I got denied the internship because I was “over-qualified” but then I wasn’t qualified enough for an entry level job

Questions on why I wanted the job as we toured around the floor. Laidback environment and friendly atmosphere. All in all a positive experience although this was some years ago.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Penguin Random House in Feb 2021

      Interview

You essentially go through like 2 interviews. The first was a one-on-one Webex call where they kind of just ask you questions about you, why you want to get into publishing, why you chose this company, etc. My interviewer was absolutely incredible. He made me very comfortable, acknowledged that this is a scary process and it was very conversational. I was contacted less than a week later for a second interview with the hiring managers. This interview was on Zoom and they asked behavioral/competency questions. They only asked like 2 or 3 questions and it was about 15 minutes long. I was contacted a little over 2 weeks later (the longest two weeks of my life btw) to fill out another application sheet. Nothing, crazy, they asked for references at this time. The next day (literally the day I am posting this) I got a call from the nicest HR person ever telling me that I have been offered a position.
