I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Rocket Lab
Interview
Main point of contact was a hiring recruiter that was nice but there were some confusing logistics surrounding a change in the role that I applied to and the team being located in New Zealand rather than where I originally applied to. But initial phone interview was very chill and all the questions were quite easy and seem to be used just to weed out folks who probably never worked in a software engineering position a day in their life.
Take-home assessment was a very large, multi-part task that was supposed to happen after an initial video call with someone on the actual engineering team, but that couldn't be scheduled. I was fine with the change in plans so went ahead and completed what felt like a task for someone's actual job at the company. I was told an interview would be scheduled to discuss my implementation, but was ghosted and then later sent an email saying they were not moving forward a few weeks later.
Overall, interview process left a bitter taste in my mouth, which is a pity as I've heard better things from other interviewers. I believe the team I applied to was just bad and I should have detected something was wrong when I received such a large task with little directions and having never been in contact with anyone in software.
