      Customer Support Engineer Interview

      11 May 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Samsara in Apr 2022

      Interview

It was about a 3 week process. A recruiter emailed me to schedule a time to talk and they explained the type of company Samsara is and what the position entails. I really liked our conversation, since they were very open and also attentive to my answers. After talking about my experiences and expectations, I was then scheduled to speak to one of the hiring managers. We had a really good conversation too. The questions were all behavioral at this point. I was then sent a take-home exam with some technical questions. After submitting, the recruiter called me and said I passed it, and that I’d be moving on to the next step, which would be 3 back-to-back interviews. It was really nice of them to send me an interview prep email for this part. My recruiter even met with me before it to prep and answer any questions I had up until this point. The back-to-back interviews went into a deep dive of my experiences and asked a couple of technical questions. It must’ve totaled up to about 2 hours. I had a great time talking to everyone. It gave me a good idea on the types of things Samsara values. The next step was speaking to one more hiring manager. After our conversation, I received a call from my recruiter saying I got the job! I was ecstatic. The people I met were awesome, and the recruiting team did a really good job promptly answering my questions and scheduling the next steps. I would recommend practicing the STAR method for the interviews to make the best use of time when explaining your experiences. They really encouraged me to be myself and that the process was not only a way to see if I was a good fit, but if they were a good fit for me.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Samsara (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2021

      Interview

About 2 weeks process. They first contacted me for a phone interview/screening that was about 15 minutes long, just some basic questions about my experience and what I know about the company, what is my current role, etc. Then they sent me a technical assessment that was not difficult, but I invested a lot of hours on it, because it required you to familiarize yourself with their platform and products. After that, I was called for an "onsite" (via Zoom) interview. I was asked to be prepared for 2 hours of interview in total, divided by 4 interviews with 4 different managers. I prepared for exactly what they asked me. On the day of the interview I entered the Zoom meeting and no one showed up. I called the recruiter after about 5 minutes waiting in the room. They told me the first interviewer was simply not going to show up and asked me to wait and come back for the 2nd interviewer and said they were going to contact me to reschedule this 1 interview. So I came back into the meeting for the 2nd interview, and they were also late, about 6 minutes or so, so we had to cut it short. The other 2 interviewers showed up on time and the interviews went well from there. However, they never contacted me to give me an update about that first interview. They emailed me two days later to let me know they were not going to move forward. I found that I did not have a proper chance if compared to the other applicants. Also, I thought it was disrespected that the interviewer simply never showed up and the recruiters did not make any arrangements to let me know.

      Interview

I went to a hiring event. Recruiter emailed me setting up a phone interview and they shuffled me around to different roles. Eventually went to an in person(guess they don’t pay for any transportation to interview) after several repetitive phone calls. Panel of 3 guys, one after the other. Personality, technical, personality. I don’t know why these people intentionally waste people’s time and disrespect them so much. I never received any kind of callback or notification reminding me of my place at any point in the process. And after I came all the way to the SF office on my own time and money, they didn’t even bother to call me back or even send a rejection email. I emailed their useless HR and after taking an extremely long time to respond they started throwing names and pointing fingers at everyone else(as if I cared who’s responsibility it was to get in touch). My advice to everyone interested in this position is to not waste your time and money interviewing in person (unless you’re being compensated) for these people as they probably don’t want to hire you and are wasting your time. I don’t really understand why they are doing these interviews. I asked my interviewer how many people he has interviewed for this position and he told me 200 in several months. Meaning they’ve turned down over 90% of them. Wtf? I highly suspect these positive reviews are fake. They don’t talk about anything concrete and specific.
