I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Shield Bearer (Houston, TX) in Jan 2021
Interview
The interview process was a 4 step process. 1st was to interview with the Director of the Organizaiton. 2nd was a round table interview with various other employees. 3rd was a round table with the Executive Board. 4th was reference checks. All of my interviews went exceptionally well but the reference checks is where this organizaiton crossed the line. All of my references were sent a questionaire to fill out which seemed fine enough to me. The promblem was that all of my references said that they felt like THEY were being interviewed, having been asked to fill out a 14 question survey about me. The last quesiton they all felt was way too personal and beyond their expertise or roles as former employers, former co-workers and long time professional contacts. The quesiton was "Working at a nonprofit organization is often personal. There is usually a passion for the mission and to help people. As a result it can be emotionally draining. In your opinion, how emotionally healthy is the candidate? Do they handle stress well? Are they a positive or negative person? " Folks that do not have formal training in the mental health and well being of others cannot answer a question like "How emotionally healthy is the candidate" and quite frankly, that is crossing the a very fine / private line. I ended up deciding that due to their line of quesitoning that I no longer wished to be considered for this company as it all seemed excessive.

I cannot recall exactly, but one was along the lines of: What plan of action would you take to prepare for new fundraising initiatives"
