I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Skyscanner (Edinburgh, Scotland) in Mar 2022

      Interview

The interview process is quite simple, however I experienced that some of the recruiter are screwed up. I passed the first coding challenge quite easily, then I was informed straight away that I will be proceeding to the first stage (out of two). The first stage is one hour cultural fit and one hour depth of expertise: - My cultural fit went extremely well, I received a feedback that my interview stand out and was really great. - Depth of Expertise (DoE) consist of talking about one of your recent project, and unfortunately I found an interviewer that was rude and not listening at all. I received the email after few days that they won't be proceeding to the last stage, I asked to have a meeting with the recruiter to have a feedback on what went wrong and... SHE WAS SURPRISED OF THAT, because i received a positive feedback also from the DoE interview but he mentioned that "i'm a really skilled engineer but I may be lacking of logging experience". Now I was angry about it, because if you have a doubt that I may be lacking one minimal skill you could admit me to the next stage and deeply evaluate it there since there's a two hour system design interview instead of just rejecting me. Few days after I got an offer from one of their competitors for 30% more of the salary they proposed in Skyscanner.

I'm very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience in our hiring process. I genuinely am - however, the language you have used to describe a hard-working member of my team is not in keeping with our inclusive culture and I'd like to ask you to consider re-wording your description of them. To move forward positively, I'd love to have an open conversation and dive into the feedback from your depth of expertise interview with you personally, alongside the interviewer who conducted it, so that we can better articulate the reasons for our decision to not proceed with your application. Can you please reach out to me at mairi.fernandez@skyscanner.net and I will be happy to arrange to connect at a time that works for you? Kind regards, Mairi Fernandez, Global TA Director, Skyscanner

      Interview

I interviewed with Skyscanner. The HR process was professional and well-organized. Communication was clear, and I appreciated that they offered to provide feedback afterward. The technical interview, however, was disappointing. The interviewer was not very communicative and didn’t provide much clarification when I asked questions about the task, which made the process feel less collaborative than expected. I implemented a working solution during the interview, focusing on correctness and efficiency. While it may have had minor syntax issues or missed some edge cases due to time pressure, it addressed the problem. At the end, I was surprised when the interviewer suggested that I might have copied the solution. This felt unexpected and unfair, especially in a live coding setting where the thought process is visible.

There were two coding problems: the first was easy, and the second was a graph problem.
