      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (Chicago, IL) in Nov 2021

      Interview

High level call with initial recruiter (30 min), more detailed call with a sr. recruiter (30 min), call with direct manager (45 min), final call with direct manager and VP (90 min). First call with recruiters were going over your background / past experiences. Very high level. The second call with a senior recruiter was a little more in depth about your experiences. Align on comp, set expectations etc. The call with the manager dug more into why sales, talk to me about your sales approach etc. Walked through past deals The final interview was a deep dive of my resume going all the way back to college. There was a 20 minute mock discovery call. Do your homework and come prepared!!!! I worked with a recruiter out of Texas and she couldn't have been better! She went out of her way to take my calls that always went over time, gave me great feedback, and prepared me for all of my interviews especially the mock disco call. She was always available for me via call/text and made the entire process very enjoyable. There were a lot of steps in the process but they were able to work around my schedule and we got this done fast. I enjoyed every single one of my conversations and I cannot wait to be apart of the team!

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2022

      Interview

Recruiter reached out via LI a year ago, wasn't interested at the time. Year later when I was looking for a new role, reached back out and scheduled first round. Recruiter was absolutely amazing throughout the process, very communicative and prompt and always gave me good advice. Second and third round was with a manager who was newly moved over from Salesforce. Unfortunately like much of what you're reading here on Glassdoor, Slack is trying to incorporate Salesforce as much as possible through sales ops/upselling/pretty much everything, and that has changed the Slack culture as well. The manager I interviewed with clearly knew what she was doing, was well versed and a Salesforce OG, but at the same time I thought she was very hardcore and big tech-y. Which isn't a bad thing at all, but bringing that type of vibe and management style to smaller company like Slack will have its pros and cons. She grinded me a whole lot, and was one of the most difficult interviews I had, even going over 15 minutes each round. Final presentation was with the manager and a VP, where you had to prepare a powerpoint presentation of why they should choose you, and come up with template/prepare for a sample discovery call. I thought my discovery call/presentation went pretty well, but I messed up some objection handling. I did not end up getting the offer, but overall really enjoyed Slack's recruiting process, and it's no hard feelings as it wasn't meant to be. The recruiter and managers were all very kind, knew Slack top to bottom, had some worries about the Salesforce integration, but overall could not have asked for a better experience despite not getting the final offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How do you qualify? How do you dig for pain? What are you looking for? What kind of deal cycle are you looking for? How to handle 200 accounts? How do you move through a deal, what is your strategy? How do you look to improve any processes? How would you commit a deal? How would you pressure test a deal? What are you and your manager working on in terms of your weakness? What do you think was the reason you hit quota every place you went?

      Mid Market Account Executive Interview

      6 Apr 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Slack in Apr 2022

      Interview

The interview process went very well until the final stage. The recruiter was fantastic, and so was the hiring manager. Then there was a presentation call and they sent a deck for me to prepare. I worked on it for close to a week, and was very confident going into the presentation. The final interview included another manager, and it took a negative turn very quickly. I was criticized at every step by her. I was asked to remember my college professor's name (I graduated in '05). It was all very off-putting. So basically after 75 mins of negative feedback, I did not get the job. Not only that, I did not even receive feedback that I requested after the interview.
