A recruiter offering a management leadership position contacted me. We had an initial phone conversation that led to a in-person interview with a National Recruiter. I went up to San Francisco to meet them at their offices. The office had a professional feel to it.
The recruiters hadn’t seen my resume in advance so I gave them a copy. This was kind of strange, as I perceived they had only looked at my professional online profile. I gave them a background summary and told them what I wanted to do. The recruiters went on to tell me about their local clientele. I asked them about a few concerns that I had after reading some reviews on this site such as 2 weeks PTO. They confirmed this – how can anyone give only 2 weeks PTO? This is pretty much a staff augmentation firm. I asked them about the leadership role they had in mind and was told that a title would be management consultant. Staff augmentation and management consulting is not the same thing.
The last final straw was that when we talked about potential salary, they wanted to pay what I was making 4 years ago. Why would I take a pay cut and go back? This ended up being a waste of time. For future candidates, please clarify what position you will be interview for and salary range prior to meeting with them. Slalom attracts local consultants and only a few years work experience.
