      User Experience Researcher Interview

      22 Sept 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SolarWinds

      Interview

The process consisted 1 phone conversation and 3 in-person interviews, all within 2 weeks. The phone conversation was a basic screener conducted by a recruiter who had no knowledge of UX. The first and second interviews assessed my subject matter expertise. The last interview was a behavioural interview to assess if I would fit in.

      Question 1

During the second in-person interview I was given a software feature for validation. I had pick a methodology, write up a test plan, run a test, present the results and recommendations to the interview panel.

      User Experience Researcher Interview

      9 Jan 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at SolarWinds in Dec 2018

      Interview

Applied online and was contacted by the recruiter 2 weeks after submitting the application. The first interview was a 1x1 with the UX Manager. She asked about my previous experience and explained the structure of the team and their processes. The interview went well, and the recruiter followed up the next day to schedule a second interview with a Principal UX Researcher on the team. We had (what I thought) was a good chat. Her questions focused more on whether the company was a good fit for me than my technical skills. We went over time, and she sent me an email with some follow-up questions. For a few days, we chatted back and forth over email about my experience and the company. Her responses were prompt and honest, and I was under the impression from her replies and reception of my answers that I had a good chance at securing the position. Then everything went cold. No further emails, no phone calls, nothing -- from the recruiter or the two team members I interviewed with. I sent a follow-up email to the recruiter conveying my continued interest about a week after the second interview and still received no reply. After two (what I perceived to be positive) interviews and a good reception from both interviewers, I would have hoped to at least have some communication about the role, even if I was no being longer considered. The lack of courtesy was extremely off-putting, especially from a team (UX) that fosters empathy in their everyday work.
