      Product Manager Interview

      16 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Stamps.com in Jul 2020

      Interview

      1. Case study before any call (waste of time they don't even go over it with you, just to see if you have any idea how product management works I suppose) 2. Call with someone on the team asking about a product you use and how you would improve it w/ bunch of product questions 3. Another panel interview w/ more members of the team on a case study (no prep) and how to use APIs to build the case (don't understand why as a product lead I have to tell the developers what parameters an API can take in and output) 4. Another call with Director of PM; enjoyed this call another case study/brain teaser questions 5. Call with VP cultural fit As you can see, multiple rounds and multiple case studies for a company that sells stamps and online postage. My interviews at other FAANG companies were less work than this.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Case Study (take home) 2. Product Sense for a product you use 3. Case study/api documentation (on the fly) 4. Case study/brain teaser (look over your basic investment banking brain teasers) 5. Culture

      Interview

I interviewed for a product manager position here about six years ago. The interview included some Google-esque mathematical logic questions that I wasn’t very good at solving on the spot. I felt that they weren’t very indicative of success in the position, and I ended up at a smaller company where I ended up in a C-level role and have ideated/designed several successful eCommerce and SAAS products. I don’t knock the interviewer because it’s extremely hard to vet candidates and my background would’ve made me a gamble. However, I did think that the mathematical logic question was a bit absurd as far as asking it on the spot.

      Question 1

Suppose that we wish to know which stories in a 100-story building are safe to drop eggs from, and which will cause the eggs to break on landing. What strategy should be used to drop eggs such that total number of drops in worst case is minimized and we find the required floor. We may make a few assumptions: An egg that survives a fall can be used again. A broken egg must be discarded. The effect of a fall is the same for all eggs. If an egg breaks when dropped, then it would break if dropped from a higher floor. If an egg survives a fall then it would survive a shorter fall.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Stamps.com

      Interview

This company will ask you to do free work in the form of a case study before you are given the opportunity to speak with anyone. Before you "prove yourself" by doing free work for a company, you should be given the opportunity to learn more about the role, the company itself, the company culture, the people etc. An interview is a two way process; you want to be sure they are as good a fit for you as you are for them. Do not waste your time and effort on a project before you have any actual idea that they are a place you'd want to work.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No questions were asked. Before speaking with anyone I was emailed a case study to complete.
