Some people are given phone interviews, but I did not get one. Two days after submitting my online application, I received an email from HR inviting me to participate in a group interview that next Saturday at 9:30am. There was little instruction, only that we would be participating in a "planning session and teach back" and to only bring a "pen, paper and a great attitude." I tried to get some more information, but I was assured we would get all the information we needed that day.
On the day of the interview there were probably forty people also interviewing. We all watched a quick powerpoint about SA and then went off into the smaller conference rooms we were assigned to when we arrived. We all went around and introduced ourselves (mix of recent college grads, career changers and education professionals) and then the Recruiter gave us all a 9 line poem called "Keepsake" (though I doubt they use the same poem for all the interviews) and we went through it the way teachers at SA would do in the classroom. She then gave us time to plan our own lesson using the same poem so we could all teach it back to the group. Everyone had three minutes to teach the poem and the Recruiter gave us all "glows and grows" in response to our lesson. Everyone is expected to incorporate the feedback from the previous person into their teach back so I imagine the last person was under a bit of stress. Once we all finished, we watched a video of a third grade teacher teaching a Robert Frost poem. We filled out preference forms for school placement (borough and grade level, high school is not an option for ATs at this time) and then we were on our way. I left around 1pm.
I got a call from the same recruiter the following Tuesday and she offered me the position.
