I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at TJ Maxx (Chicago, IL) in Sept 2016
Interview
I turned in the application at 11:30 am on a Thursday and received a call back the same day at 3:30 pm. Had two interviews the following Saturday with two merchandising managers. The first interview went great, the interviewer went into great detail about the job, the company, and the expectations and seemed very intrigued by my experience.
The second interviewer, however, was very rude. She kept interrupting me when I was answering her questions and assumed that I can't take constructive criticism. Even though the interview with her was very rocky, and stated that she felt "50/50" with me, she set me up for another interview with the Store Manager.
This interview with him went VERY well. He understood my reasonings for leaving my previous job and was very impressed by my retail experience. He told me the DM was on vacation and that he would reach out to her about my application once she came back (all full time positions have to be approved by their DM). He called me back two days later and asked me to come up to the store and consent to a background check. Once there, he offered me the job.
Even though my interview with the lady interviewer was very off putting, I would say my experience was positive because I enjoyed my interviewers with the first interviewer and the store manager.
I applied online. I interviewed at TJ Maxx (New York, NY) in Jan 2022
Interview
The interview process was simple, they asked more about leadership and merchandising skills. Make sure to ask questions too to show you have negotiation skills because they look for that.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How will you be a team player when it comes to merchandising?
I applied online. I interviewed at TJ Maxx (Oakridge, TN) in Dec 2021
Interview
It wasn’t a long process. It was just awkward to have two management staring at you. You stood at the door till someone came and got you. They brought you to their office and closed the door. Then they asked how you were doing then started the questions once you have sat down.

Question 1
Some of the questions are why are you interested in working here? What are your plans with working here? How much do you plan on working and your availability? How much do you expect to get an hour? Why did you leave your last job? Were you vaccinated? Why did you choose TJ MAXX? Etc…
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at TJ Maxx (Atlanta, GA) in Aug 2020
Interview
The interview was basic, with all of the expected questions but it felt really rushed and the interviewer was trying to get me to interview for a different position than what I applied for. After I said I wasn't interested they continued to try to persuade me to interview for a sales associate position instead. Then wanted to schedule a second interview the following day with me for Saturday evening.
