      Sales Associate Interview

      28 Sept 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tampa, FL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at The Connor Group (Tampa, FL) in Sept 2022

      Interview

I would like to start this review by saying that The Connor Group seemed like an awesome company to work for. Between their work culture and great benefits I was extremely excited to have been contacted for an interview with them. What I would like to point out is that for the job I was applied for (sales associate) they advertised it to people coming from the hospitality industry with "no apartment experience necessary" as well as nowhere on the job posting did it state that they were looking for those with sales experience. Luckily before I completed THREE interviews I looked up interview questions here on Glassdoor, which mind you were all sales related and was able to come up with sales related answers via my hospitality experience since I did not have DIRECT sales experience. I did find it a little confusing that the entire interview process was based on our sales experience even though it was not required..but whatever I figured they wanted to see how well you were able to adapt and I get that so after passing three interviews and receiving an offer to do the "day in the field" interview which was the last interview before you are offered the job or not I figured I pretty much had the job in the bag and was extremely excited. I was also getting great feedback from my recruiter and those who interviewed me. I was 10x more nervous for the interviews than I was for the day in the filed part because I am confident in my work experience and am able to easily connect with people. I The two girls I "shadowed" for the day were decent. I really just sat their watching what they did so obviously wasn't able to show any skill and at this point I am like ok no problem they are busy...but at least 3 times they both asked me about my sales experience which again I said I didn't have any DIRECT sales experience as I mentioned in my 3 previous interviews but after watching what they did (which was pretty simple) would be relatively easy for ANYONE after a few days of practice on the job. They expect you to follow a script when answering phones and showing apartments and to follow basic sales tactics to lease apartments and not to be rude but anyone with half a brain could do. So about an hour in I'm given three sale scripts that I am told I am going to do with a higher up via zoom...ok sounds easy enough. The girls go over the script with me for a total of maybe 5 minutes and then I am face to face with someone from corporate being told to read these three sales scripts back and forth with her. We do this 3 times over and every time she says "you sound scripted" and at this point I'm like well duh you've given me this script that I am supposed to follow WORD for WORD that I have looked at for a total of 5 minutes OBVIOUSLY I sound scripted. So she gives me feedback.."make it your own" which I do but at this point a little flustered because I am being told to not sound scripted even though I am reading a script that I've never seen before. The lady I read the script with was extremely kind and I ended our conversation with "I know I didn't know the script exactly but after listening to the sales associate who I shadowed and practicing with you I am a quick learner and know that I can pick this up with a few days of practice." as could anyone....now at this point I had been there for about 3.5 hours. I was told by the recruiter AND the lady via zoom that I would be bought lunch during my day in the field. Well after I did my script via zoom the girl told me I could go pretty abruptly. They were super busy as it was Monday and they were short staffed but I was kind of taken back at that point because I hadn't been given lunch and had not been there very long. So at this point I knew the job was not going to be offered to me. Ok fine, I can take rejection and I will easily find another job but I was just kind of irritated at the entire situation at that point. Its not about the lunch..I wasn't hungry at that point but if your recruiter and the gal via zoom say they will be providing lunch and you tell them to leave early and without lunch honestly its just kind of a slap in the face. My recruiter was awesome from beginning to end so I don't want to rag on her BUT there was a ton of scheduling conflicts and changes of schedules for all THREE interviews and because I wanted to be available and hopefully land the job I ended up giving up 4 shifts (2 were unnecessary because she had to change the schedule but at that point I couldn't get my shifts back) which totaled $600+ lost wages for myself this month which is a major hurt during slow season in Florida. Moral of the story is what a waste of time and lost wages for myself. I am an extremely disappointed with the interview process and I would say don't waste your time. Blessing in disguise as the last person mentioned!

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at The Connor Group (Austin, TX) in Apr 2025

      Interview

I was reached out by a recruiter through LinkedIn and she seemed so excited wanting to connect with me, and as I was looking through the job description and about the company, and it seemed interesting, so I gave it a shot and scheduled the initial phone interview with the recruiter. The day comes and the recruiter calls me and we had our very basic interview questions, which I thought went pretty well. She seemed like a sweetheart and was very optimistic about my interview. She then tells me that she'll get with the hiring manager and she'll let me know what the next steps are in 24-48 hours, so it won't be till Friday (the phone interview was on Wednesday). I was very much looking forward to an email or whatever from the recruiter because she told me she would get back to me, and we all know that a lot of companies nowadays, they just ghost you, so when they tell you they'll get back to you, it's a relief, at least. As Friday passes and then a whole week has passed already at this point, I never got any news from the recruiter, I even tried emailing her and no response. It's very upsetting and disappointing because I really had my hopes up and I was really looking forward to the next steps in the interview process, but unfortunately, most companies nowadays, just ghost you instead of writing a rejection letter to you, how disappointing.

      Sales Associate Interview

      29 Oct 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cincinnati, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Connor Group (Cincinnati, OH) in Jul 2024

      Interview

I went through several rounds of interviewing. At first it felt more like a conversation where I was able to address questions that I had as well. In later interviews I had a 30 minute call where I answered all of their questions. After 3 rounds of interviews, I never heard from them again. However, one of their recruiters contacted me twice on linkedin to hire me for the same position that I had already interviewed for. I very kindly told her about my experience where they had ghosted me in the interviewing process. The recruiter viewed my message and gave no response. I liked the people that I interviewed with, they were very friendly and the process wasn't stressful, but I didn't hear from them in any capacity after weeks of interviewing.
