      Case Worker Interview

      10 Nov 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Providence, RI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The Key Program (Providence, RI) in Oct 2017

      Interview

There were 2 interviews I had to come in for. The first one went really well. The supervisor was explaining to me what the program was about and roles to be carried out by each position they were hiring for. I got to meet some of the staff memebers and they were able to show me the type of work they do on a day to day basis. I was given many chances to speak and to demonstrate how my prior experience has prepared me for the positions they were hiring for. Although I was a bit nervous, I was very excitied during my first interview, the conversations with everyone were flowing, and although I knew alot about the company and what they do, I was still learning alot while there. My second interview was the one that changed my perpective on this program. To even get to my second interview, I had to play phone tag a couple of times with the person I was being interviewed by. We were finally able to set up a time, but recieved a message saying it had to be postponed for a doctors appointment, which I did not need to know. I called to reschedule and wasnt able to get in contact with the person. The day before the interview at 6pm is when i got the phonecall about what time I should come in the next day. Things happen so I didnt look much into this. But my whole perspective about the company changed upon arrival for my second interview. It's as if I wasnt expected. I was taken into a room with 2 interviewers, and right away I was turned off. I was eager to talk and to show how prepared and qualified I was for the position, but everytime I was about to say something, I was kinda cut off. I wasnt really given a chance to speak until the end when I was asked If I had any questions. There were 2 people there interviewing me, but only 1 was really speaking. Two huge disappointments that made me basically give up half way through my interview was my race being brought up and the smell of the room. I was asked a question like "I see here you speak spanish, you know how us spanish people are, what would you do if you if the family got comfortable with you and told you something that you had to report, and once you did, they start yelling at you in spanish?" .. This question really got to me because although i speak the language, I actually wasnt Spanish and this situation couldve happened with anyone , no matter what language they speak or what country they are from. Lastly, the thing that turned me off the most, was the room I was being interviewed in; it smelled like marijuana. Now im not sure if it was the staff or if it couldve been one of the children in the program, but that smell is no way acceptable in that type of facility. I couldnt take these people serious anymore. This is a great job to start off with straight out of college, but becareful, you dont want to work at a place with a bad reputation. I see with this place has a huge turnover rate.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What would you do if a family member became close with you and revealed information that you had to report and after you reported, they got angry and started cussing at you? (This is not how they asked the question, but this is how it should've been asked instead of bringing up race or ethnicity.)
