I actually interviewed for three Technical Writer jobs in the span of a few weeks, all at the same location in Cambridge, MA (the former site of Brammer Bio). I'm
guessing this an indication of high turnover.
The first job sounded good, since my initial contact told me they were really seeking someone who's skilled and experienced at writing. But the picture soured when I got to the Zoom interview panel. The first person was pleasant and normal, but two others had somewhat arrogant attitudes, seemed to not take the interview seriously, and revealed that the job was actually more about dull management drudgery than writing -- a contradiction of what the first person said. One interviewer didn't even bother showing up.
For the second job, I got set up for an interview, only to see it abruptly cancelled the next day, as someone arbitrarily decided there was a requirement I didn't meet after all. Sloppy, uncoordinated.
For the third job, I ended up meeting with a rather unfriendly guy who seemed to be looking for any excuse to screen me out, and who I just couldn't imagine working with.
They don't seem to pay very well, either. For the standard tech writer job, I was told to expect a salary in the $70K range -- pretty uncompetitive for Boston. I also get calls from recruiters for contract tech writer jobs at TFS offices in the SF Bay Area that all seem to pay $25/hour -- roughly half the going rate.
Taken together, I got the impression that Thermo-Fisher is a cheap company filled with unpleasant incompetents who are constantly quitting.
