I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Tinder (West Hollywood, CA) in Apr 2022
Interview
Apply->OA->Phone->Technical Final Round-> Offer
The OA was on code signal. The phone interview was primarily just a vibe check/behavioral interview to see if the recruiter likes you. The technical final round did not consist of any live coding as Tinder doesn't do live coding interviews for INTERNS anymore. For full-time, you still get a live coding interview. The technical interview consisted of my engineering manager that I would be working with asking me React questions (how useEffect is used) as well as hypothetical questions pertaining to web (how to deal with the web app being offline while messaging someone on Tinder, use service workers).They basically scheduled my final round interview in the same call as the phone interview. To get my offer, I waited around a week before they gave me the offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What is useEffect?
What would you display to the user if the web app went down in the middle of your message? What would you do in the backend to retrieve that message?
How to center a div (different ways of doing it)?
What change would you make on the current Tinder web app?
What are your long term goals after you graduate?
(More behavioral questions than technical).
