      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Top Hat (Toronto, ON) in Feb 2017

      Interview

I am new to the tech industry and have been trying to expand beyond my current industry, so I reached out to a recruiter, who found me this opening. It started with a fairly straightforward phone interview, followed by a one-on-one in-person interview. Before the in-person interview began, I did a 12 minute skills testing test. The interview itself went really well and felt very comfortable, as the interviewer was attentive and engaged in the process. Shortly after that, I was told there would be a follow-up interview which would require a presentation based on a case study as a final round before a decision is made. It was at this point that the process took an absolute nosedive for me. During the presentation and interview, one of the interviewers seemed very distracted and actually YAWNED multiple times throughout the process. This was slightly irritating and showed a lack of professionalism, but I chalked it up to a late night, since it was an early morning interview. After the interview was completed, I was told I would hear back from them early next week regarding the outcome (the interview was on a Wednesday). I waited throughout the following week and received no call or email, but once again assumed they were probably very busy. At the end of the week, I finally emailed the person who did my first in-person interview to follow up. Once again I received no response and continued to wait until the recruiter reached out to me asking if I had heard anything. After telling the recruiter about the radio silence, he decided to reach out to them to find out what happened. Funny enough, he wasn't even able to touch base with any of the interviewers and finally uncovered through some automated number of theirs that they hired someone else. Even though I was really upset about their unresponsiveness after making me go through three rounds of interviews, I still wanted to have a quick chat about my shortcomings to identify areas of development for future interviews. I reached out again to one of the interviewers to ask where I can work to improve, since I am new to the industry and want to do better for the next interview. Naturally, I got no response once again and it was at this point I realized I probably dodged a bullet by not getting hired at such an absolutely unprofessional company. Over the years, I've done several dozen interviews for a wide range of positions in different industries. I have been turned down for most of them and used those experiences to better identify how to improve my interviewing skills and work harder the next time. This was actually the WORST experience I've ever had with interviewing. If I did an absolutely terrible job during the interview, I would think basic human decency and professional courtesy would mean THEY COULD AT LEAST CALL ME BACK AFTER THREE INTERVIEWS to tell me I didn't get the job, AS THEY SAID THEY WOULD. Ignoring a candidate (even an unsuccessful one) after THREE interviews is beyond unprofessional and just embarrassing. I truly pray this awful experience is a one-off and not a common occurrence within the tech sector, because no one should every have to deal with that.

      Toronto, ON

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Top Hat (Toronto, ON) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Starts off with a phone interview, then you do a personality test that they send over email, after that you are called in for an in-person interview. Before the interview they put you in a room to do a wonderlic test. Then you have an in-person interview. The process seemed to be nice and quick until after the interview I was told I would be contacted within a week. It has been more than a month and I still have not received any word back. Yet online the application still says in process. I have also sent multiple emails to the recruited in regards to an update but did not even get a response. Very unprofessional for a company that is growing at a fast pace.

Why Top Hat? They do a sales roleplay. Talk about previous experience.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Top Hat in Oct 2016

      Interview

First had a call with a recruiter. Then met with sales manager and VP of Sales. Every one asked the same questions, mostly related to my experiences in High School and College, which didn't seem relevant. Also had to take a Wunderlic Cognitive Assessment and a Personality Test.
