    Interview

First there is a general application with all the usual stuff; why do you want to work for us? why do you want to do this role? etc.

Next a telephone interview, I had two people talking to me four around 35 minutes, asked about my hobbies and past experience, and a bit more about motivations.

Assessment centre is a day long, involves a presentation, interview and group exercise, the interview is pretty much entirely competency based.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at United Utilities (Warrington, North West England, England).

    Interview

They got in touch with me after finding my resume online. After a fairly informal telephone conversation/interview, I was shortlisted for a face-to-face interview at their main facility in Warrington. The interview itself was very informal and relaxed. There were two assessors, one being the manager of the department. But both were very friendly, yet professional. Being a recent graduate, they understood my nerves and were very forgiving for my often excessive responses to their questions. The question format was competitive and the interview lasted up to 45 minutes.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at United Utilities (Warrington, North West England, England) in December 2016.

    Interview

Two groups of 3 formed the assessment centre. Began the day with a presentation on the company, followed by individual interviews, there were both competency and technical aspects of the interview. The technical aspect was on your understanding of water and waste water processing, P&IDs, safety and root cause analysis. The next task of the day was an individual presentation on the 5 skills which make a great process engineer, which you we were told to prepare prior to attending. later on in the day we we're joined by the afternoon group for a group task. During this task we were all handed a case study on an imaginary pharmaceutical company and we're tasked with devising solutions to a number of challenges faced by the company. Similar to what I can only imagine a boardroom meeting is like. Throughout this task we discussed and debated solutions and had to come to a unanimous decision on each solution.
