      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (London, England) in Nov 2022

      Interview

First stage is with a great and engaging recruiter, then the director then a 3 stage interview panel with 2 people per interview. Really comfortable and was more of a talk to a degree. Your best bet is a STAR way of answering but it was very easy to get into a conversation. Basically, be yourself and apply your experience.

      Senior Developer Relations Manager Interview

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Montreal, QC) in Dec 2020

      Interview

Unity has a robust and purposeful interview cycle that made me feel cared for as an applicant. All of the hiring components (application, phone screening, one-on-one, and panel interviews) felt meaningful in not only assessing my skills for the position, but also affirming that the company was the right fit for me. Unity recently posted about their hiring process on their blog and I would recommend starting their interview prep there! After applying, the process began with a 10-15 minute phone screening interview by a Unity Recruiter who asked some basic questions about my reasons for applying to the company and for this specific position. They also asked about what my salary expectations were (I thankfully did my research ahead of time!) and noted some of the additional compensations and benefits that Unity provides its employees. Next was the 45-minute one-on-one interview with the Hiring Manager. It was very conversational, which I really appreciated because it felt like I was given space to connect with the Manager on a genuinely personal level. The questions that were asked went more in-depth on similar things that were asked during the phone screening (introduce yourself, motivation for applying, relevant past experience, etc.). The final interview stage consisted of two one-hour-long panel interviews with potential colleagues who would be working with the same team as me. This was definitely the hardest part of the entire process. Although these panels were also quite conversational, the questions were tough and oriented toward my behaviour as a potential team member. Questions like "tell us about a time that you over promised and under delivered?" and "how do you approach working with different kinds of people?" are challenging things to answer with brevity. I recommend that future applicants reflect on meaningful experiences that they might have had in past workplaces or similar settings to build narratives that fit the STAR (Situation / Task / Action / Result) method for answering interview questions. This will help the interviewers imagine how you might approach future scenarios, while also demonstrating your strong self-awareness and communication skills. After the panel interviews the Recruiter contacted me to request four references (two managers and two personal). Unity's HR department contacted these references within two days of me submitting them. Once the reference check was done I was again contacted by the Recruiter who extended an offer on behalf of Unity. There was room for salary and benefits negotiation during the follow-up phone call, as well as official start date. Signing the contract was all digital and straightforward.
