I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid (Detroit, MI) in Aug 2017
Interview
An ad for VIP popped up for me so I applied. I have a masters in education and I'm certified to teach ESL. I figured this would be a great part-time job for me
I started with the interview and demo. The interviewer said I did great and gave me a score of 85/100. I was told I'd be making $20/hour, which is on the higher end of their pay scale!! I figured I did pretty well
I then went on to mock 1. I watched tons of YouTube videos, attended the live workshop, watched 3 prerecorded workshops, studied the material they sent me, purchased flash cards, puppets, reward charts, marbles, dry erase board, etc!!!!! My mentor for mock 1 was great. She gave me a lot of valuable feedback and told me it was clearly evident that I had prepared well for my lesson.
I was then asked to continue to mock two with the letter p lesson. Again, I practiced and prepared. This time I felt extremely ready to show off what I had practiced. My mentor the second time was so annoying!!! She gave me contradictory feedback on what to do, acted like an idiot the entire lesson (which greatly hindered my performance!!!!). Nonetheless, she told me I did great!!! She said I did a good job, I was really fun and kept her engaged (which was a feat because she was acting like a three year old - not five.)
Three days later and no email. Just logged into my teacher portal and I wasn't given the job. What a waste of time, energy, and MONEY!!!!!
Read a lot of reviews on here and seems like most people with degrees in ESL aren't hired. Makes a lot of sense, VIP 🙄🙄🙄
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Apparently the second mentor didn't like my marbles reward system. Although the first one did. What an inconsistent company.
A greatly respect your experience, and having so many years teaching experience is wonderful. As online education continues to grow different skills are sometimes needed, and at times, skills honed in the classroom may not translate well to the online platform.

Application
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at VIPKid
Interview
Interview process was relatively fun and easy if you're comfortable doing part of a mock teaching lesson. They may do it differently now, but that's what I had to do when I interviewed.
I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid in Sept 2024
Interview
The interview process was easy, the interviewer was pleasant and we shared a few laughs. Doing the demo lesson was easy, as the lesson contact is sent to you via email a few days before you interview - which gives you enough time to prepare.
