I was initially recruited by the hiring manager via LinkedIn. The first call was a straightforward meet-and-greet where the hiring manager explained the role, and asked a few questions regarding my work history, my job search timeline, and my salary requirements. The second interview was with the hiring manager again, where he spent over an hour diving deep into my entire work history — dating back to my high school years — and asked specific questions like who my manager was from 13 years ago and what she would say about me. After passing that screening exercise, I was asked to put together a 30 minute presentation that was essentially free consulting work and giving away IP. I saw that these warnings on Glassdoor reviews, but I had already invested a significant amount of time to the interview process that I felt like I needed to complete it. I was ultimately rejected and didn’t make it to the final round of interviews because my presentation was “not specific and tailored enough to Veeva’s business,” i.e., they couldn’t take advantage of my free work. It took 40 days for my entire job interview process from start to rejection. Nearly 2 months from my rejection, I see the role is still up on the website, and I am sure many others have been put in the same position I was put in to do free work for the company only to get rejected.
