I originally applied for the position on the Disney website. I applied last week, got a call yesterday (9-27-14) and was offered an audition (interview) for the next day at noon. I explained I had a prior commitment and was not able to make it. She put me on hold, and after a minute or so, I was offered an audition later in the evening.
I was not told if the audition would be a group setting or one-on-one. However, it was a group audition with one other potential cast member. The manager took us outside the store, and us sit on a bench together, while she stood in front of us. Our task was to get to know each other while the manager went away, then introduce the other to the manager when she came back. We both introduced each other by saying the others name, where they were from, current school and/or work, age, and favorite character.
Second, we both had to draw two cards from a small stack. Each card had a scenario on them. We had to read it aloud and say what we would do in that situation. The scenarios we drew were:
"A mother comes in the store and seems to be in a hurry. She has a chid by her side and another in the stroller."
"You see a man wearing a Grumpy t-shirt, he is standing in-front of the adult t-shirt section."
"You notice a child watching Mickey Mouse Club House."
"A child comes into the store carrying a spiderman toy."
After this, the manager asked us if we had any questions for her. I asked her about her career with Disney and what it was like. I feel its always important to ask a question about the company in some form or another. The other questions asked were generic, such as scheduled hours, store hours, etc.
I was prepared to answer questions about Disney or characters, but I was not asked anything of the sort. She then explained that the next step would be a background check. She insisted that we complete it as soon as possible. Once we pass the back ground check the store manager would contact us to make the official offer and at that time, it would include our salary information. She said the back ground check takes 2-3 days. So I should have my official offer by the end of the week.
