Met with recruiter - hiring manager - wider team. Recruiter was general screening and culture fit, hiring manager screened for fit for the role, and wider team screened for fit in the role and the team
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Xero in Nov 2024
Interview
I had interacted with Xero for 2 roles. For the first role, I initially got the automatic rejection email, then the hiring manager contacted me and apologized and asked if I was still interested. In the first screening call, I again got the impression I will not be called for an interview, but then I did. Went through all interview stages pretty quickly, but then was not selected for the role, standard process and good feedback. When they asked if I was interested in a different role, the communication was honestly just all over the place, and I would dare to say the reason why I did not get the job. My email to advise on expectations for further interviews went unanswered, and then my further chat for the role was informal because I was not aligned on what I should have done. As final email, I was informed they paused hiring for the role, while I know that they filled the vacancies. So, I was lied to in order to not be asked for feedback maybe, when the initial mix up was because of miscommunication on their end. I honestly thought the world of Xero, but their recruitment give them a terrible reputation, and it has put me off ever applying for a role again with them.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How do you manage miscommunication with stakeholders ?
More just a heads up. Internal talent should be a little more compassionate particularly with ex Xero employees who were may have been impacted by the lay offs last year that have decided to apply for roles that have come up. You may have been one of the lucky ones to stick around post reset but treat your ex colleagues with a little more empathy and follow up with feedback if they decide to apply for open roles. I'm sure that internal talent is stretched thin but just take a moment and continue to be the great humans that Xero is known for.
