I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Yummly in Jan 2019
Interview
I applied online. I received an email reply within a day asking to set up an initial phone screen. The phone screen went well and I was asked to schedule a technical phone discussion. I scheduled the technical phone talk for a few days later.
Tech phone chat started on schedule and covered some aspects of Android programming and what the dev culture at Yummly was like. The interviewer was very nice. During the chat, I was sent a link for a live code exercise (codebunk or codeshare or the like). I have terrible whiteboard phobia and blew a really easy question. (Not having code completion a la Android Studio and IntelliJ contributed to my failure).
Everyone I talked to was open and cool. I deeply regret blowing the question, as Yummly sounds like a great place to be.
They could improve their interview process some:
- Indicate that there will be live coding (I could have been without laptop, etc.) well before hand.
- Follow up with a "Thanks, but we won't be moving forward" email, just as a courtesy to close things out.
