      Sales Assistant Interview

      15 Nov 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Zara (London, England) in Nov 2012

      Interview

Firstly: You hand in an application including National Insurance number and referencesx2. If you have retail experience they may give you an interview appointment on the spot (I had mine the very next day). I walked in, it was a group interview with about 15 - 20 other candidates. Most of the people there were latin american/spanish/polish. There were two interviewers. Note: One of the things that really shocked me, was that the interviewer pressured people that were considered good looking to answer questions at times, so that they could have a reason to hire them (even if they answered the question terribly). They seem to look favourably at spanish people and latin americans (but it is a Spanish company after all). Hence, I can more or less guarantee that people that didn't answer questions too well or stood out in the points they made will still get the job, simply because they stood out for their looks. Harsh indeed, but seems to be reality in regards to INDITEX (Zara...). They show you a 4 to 5 min clip about INDITEX. A company that owns over 100 companies, including ZARA, Pull and Bear, Zara home and so on. Questions: 1) Tell me what you learnt/or realised from the video? 2) What is INDITEX? 3) Tell me your name and where you are from? 4) Tell me what kind of work experience you have done (relate this question to retail of course)? 5) What age ranges do we cater for? (they do kids clothes too, don't forget) 6) Who are our competitors (Note: Uniqlo is not their competitor apparently? Despite, it stating so on INDITEX's website and Uniqlos mother companies 'fast retailing's' website too) 7) Tell me one word positive and one word negative about yourself (everyone seemed to form sentences though, which was quite shocking) 8) Tell me one word positive and negative with customer experience you may have had? (again everyone seemed to use sentences). Apparently, there is a game they play too with the candidates, but unfortunately they did not have enough time in this instance. Finally, they ask you for the hours you can do and when you are available, or if you have any holidays booked. On this occasion If you got the job they would call you back after an hour or two.
