I was offered a Customer Service Officer role at iCare, which I accepted in good faith after transparently disclosing my valid visa status in job application and also during multiple stages of hiring process, and personal relationship (my spouse was also offered the same role). Despite meeting all work eligibility requirements and disclosing everything upfront, the offer was abruptly withdrawn without any written explanation. Communication throughout the process was poor — my follow-up emails were ignored, calls went unanswered, and the final decision was relayed only verbally after a week of silence, that too when I had resigned from my previous job, hence leaving me unemployed.
What’s most concerning is that my visa status was known and acknowledged during the application, screening, and interview stages — yet it was used as the reason for rejection only after I disclosed my marital relationship. This has left me questioning the fairness and integrity of iCare’s recruitment process. Disappointing, especially for an organisation that promotes values like transparency, inclusion, and respect but means nothing.
