      Developer Interview

      6 Jan 2026
      Anonymous employee
      Calcutta
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at payever (Calcutta) in Aug 2024

      Interview

The recruitment process was impressively fast. I was contacted via LinkedIn and had a technical task within a few days. The task was challenging but relevant to the actual work done at the company. My interview with the technical lead was very direct—we spent the time discussing architecture and code quality rather than generic HR questions. I really appreciated the transparency regarding the company’s goals and the immediate feedback I received after each stage. Cons: The technical task has a tight deadline, so you need to clear your schedule to do it justice. Advice to Management: Providing a small brief on the team structure during the first call would be a nice touch.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The one thing they really grilled me on was a deep dive into the architectural flaws of my technical task, specifically asking: "Why did you choose this specific state management pattern over a simpler service-based approach, and how will your solution handle race conditions if two different payment webhooks hit this endpoint at the exact same millisecond?" It wasn't just a casual conversation; they wanted me to defend every line of code I wrote under pressure. They pushed me to explain the trade-offs between system consistency and speed, forcing me to prove that I wasn't just following a tutorial but actually understood how to build a resilient, high-concurrency fintech system that won't crash when traffic spikes.

      Application

      Interview

Applied via LinkedIn and received a challenge link. The process is practical: No whiteboard DSA. I had to build a functional backend module. After clearing, I had a 1-hour technical deep-dive with the Lead Developer discussing my implementation, specifically focusing on MongoDB schema design and asynchronous communication (RabbitMQ). The final round was with the CTO regarding product mindset.

      Question 1

Asked questions about my submitted task, how would I change the architecture if this specific microservice suddenly received 10x the traffic? Walk us through your caching strategy (Redis) and database indexing.

      Interview

I went through their interview process and found it quite rigorous but fair. The interviewers asked thoughtful technical questions, focusing on realistic scenarios rather than trivia — which felt refreshing. The tone was supportive; they encouraged me to explain my thought process rather than just give “right” answers. After the interview, I got feedback quickly. Also, they were transparent about expectations and remote-work options from Day 1. All in all — a smooth, respectful, and motivating interview process.

      Question 1

Can you walk me through how you would design a scalable service for a feature that needs to handle a high number of concurrent users?
