Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at phs Group (London, England) in Jul 2023
It's one thing to be disappointed at the end of an interview process, it's quite another to be brazenly disrespected. I've honestly never known the like. After a successful initial interview, I was given 24 hours to research and deliver a 30 minute presentation at second interview, whilst the other candidate through to this stage had received over a week for the same task. I was promised the short time frame would be taken into account. Wanting to be flexible, I agreed – although I did have concerns that it wouldn't be a level playing field. Nevertheless, the second interview and presentation went reasonably well and I was invited back for a third and final interview with the CEO. I also had to complete a personality test, as well as verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning tests, all of which placed significant demands on my time. No date had been forthcoming for the interview with the CEO since he was initially on holiday, so I followed up after a week, and then again at two weeks – still nothing. At this stage, I was juggling final rounds and ultimately offers from two other companies so was keen to at least have the opportunity to finish the process with PHS. I was continually ignored until finally being told by the recruiter that they'd had a direct applicant who they wanted to get to the same stage before putting us all in front of the CEO (which begs the question why I ever had to complete a presentation in 24 hours, and if it was possible – after all this time – to adequately take that disadvantage into account). Well over a month after my second interview, after yet another chase from me (i.e. the information was not forthcoming), I was finally told in an off-hand way by the recruiter that the role had gone to the direct applicant. I am absolutely baffled by the disrespect involved in making candidates jump through all of these hoops, to completely invented and pointless timelines, only to ultimately ghost them at the final stage. Had I not chased it up, I never would have been told that I was unsuccessful or had been essentially uninvited to interview (which I didn’t realise even happened). Success is not a given while job hunting; some disappointment is par for the course, but candidates should be able to expect honest and respectful communication as a minimum. I invested an awful lot of time and energy into this process, it is shocking to me they couldn’t be bothered to formally rescind my interview invitation or update me on the process. I was initially drawn to PHS Group's values and the opportunity in this role to make a positive impact but it's clear to me that if this is the way they conduct themselves in dealing with candidates, the foundations of the business cannot support their sustainability aspirations. There is no integrity here.

Poor communication following the interview as they didn’t even call to say I was unsuccessful and just assumed after 2 weeks of no contact, unable to get a response by email either

It was a good interview process, friendly staff. The questions were quite easy and it was made to feel like a conversation instead of an interview so I felt very comfortable.
