      Product Manager Interview

      2 Mar 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Durbanville
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at xneelo (Durbanville)

      Interview

Before even the first video interview I had to fill in 3 sets of questions: e.g. why the opportunity interests me, what my beliefs are what the role entails and what not, etc.; first on the online web page application form, secondly within an e-mail from the Talent Administrator, thirdly as attached questions to the e-mail. All of this kept me busy a full day as I ensured I supplied proper answers and put in a lot of effort. I was successful in securing the first video interview which then consisted of a panel of 4 on the company's side. Here I was challenged with nearly all new questions (fair enough) but no follow-up to the answers I already provided. In fact, I received very little acknowledgement about the effort I already put in. Considering this, I expected to at least progress to the next round as I felt not only did I put in a lot of effort and made for a strong candidate via the 3 sets of screening questions, but also during the video interview. However, I felt my question about why private former salary information mattered (a screening question), was ill-placed to my detriment as well as frowned upon by the panel in my opinion, and probably what cost me the interview. This weighs oddly against the amount of effort I put in to present myself as a strong candidate, only to be then disqualified because I questioned the relevance of private former salary information, a question that was also in my opinion not adequately answered to me by the panel in any case. So in short: a massive effort required on the screening questions for this role, then no acknowledgement or follow-up during first interview, then kicked out by what I felt in my opinion was a wrong question from my side. Strange. A pity really, as I was really keen on the position.
