Apache Software Foundation Snapshot
Named for the formidable Native American tribes of the southwestern US and Mexico, the Apache Software Foundation develops and distributes Apache, a free open-source Web server application used in the administration of computer networks. The foundation is comprised of a distributed group of software programmers located in countries worldwide who contribute to the development of the popular application. Its stated goals include the prevention of misuse of the Apache brand name for commercial purposes and legal protection for its volunteer developers. Apache also oversees a variety of development projects related to its software, such as Ant, Cocoon, Geronimo, Gump, and SpamAssassin.
