Databricks – Why Work With Us?

At Databricks, we build platforms to enable data teams to solve the world's toughest problems, from security threats to cancer drug discovery. Organizations trust us to accelerate their success. Built by the original creators of Apache Spark™, our Unified Data Analytics Platform provides the world's best data and machine learning platform so our customers can focus on the high value problems that are core to their missions. Join us - together we can help data teams solve the challenges of tomorrow.

In addition to our headquarters in San Francisco, we have another major engineering hub – our fast growing European Development Center in Amsterdam! Located in the heart of the city's business center, our Amsterdam team often participates in team outings, hackathons, themed happy hours and showcases our office with multiple Meetups and tech talks.

Databricks is proud to invest in our new West End London office, providing space to enable our sales and go-to-market teams to bring Unified Analytics to a wider audience. As we continue to expand in the EMEA region, we are also building out teams and offices in both Paris and Munich!

Our six co-founders who were the original creators of Apache Spark, founded Databricks in 2013 to help data teams solve the world’s toughest problems. From our proud Berkeley roots, to our first headquarters in San Francisco, we now have an engineering team of over 100, in San Francisco, Amsterdam, Toronto, China, and all over the world.

I have been working at Databricks full-time (More than 3 years)

Databricks has some of the smartest minds in industry including both the technical talent and leadership. The company moves very quickly with a strong culture of innovation. I've never felt resource constrained over my 3 years at the company. The general problem set that we work on is incredibly impactful on both data science and some of the largest data engineering workloads in the industry. I've also really appreciated the insight of both our executive leaders and our advisors (especially
Ben Horowitz, who is a hell of a visionary).

I haven't felt like there are too many downsides of working here. Databricks has been in hyperscale mode for the entire time I've been here. That has posed its own challenges, especially in maturing mid-level management. I think this problem is largely behind us as there are now better defined career paths and division of labor while maintaining good collaboration

    Difficult Interview

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Databricks (New York, NY (US)) in December 2019.

Quite challenging but fair. Several phone interviews, Several F2F interviews, Spark coding exam, and I had to present on a technical topic to a group of Databricks' employees. I was treating professionally and with respect. The interviews were challenging but at no time did I feel I was given trick questions. Everyone who interviewed me made me feel comfortable and afforded me ample time to respond.

    Interview Questions

    • I would say that about 50% of the questions were around culture, 25% were technical, and 25% was spent on presentation skills.   Answer Question
