Starling was founded in 2014 by industry-leading banker Anne Boden, who recognised how technology could transform the way people manage their money and serve customers in a way that traditional banks couldn't. We've since been voted Britain's Best Bank fourth time in a row at the British Bank Awards. Our new Group CEO, Raman Bhatia, joined us in June 2024. He is responsible for leading the business and setting Starling’s strategy with the board. Before joining us Raman was the CEO of OVO, one of the UK’s largest energy suppliers. He led OVO’s acceleration into green and sustainable technology and successfully campaigned for government support for customers during the energy and cost of living crisis.  We are a fully licensed UK bank, and we have the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive technology company and are obsessed with providing our customers with the best banking app and money management experience around. Every twenty minutes, someone is injured by an uninsured or untraced driver. We are the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, and we exist to stop that. We get dangerous drivers off the road and compensate innocent victims. Our work with government, insurers and the police has helped seize more than two million uninsured vehicles. That’s good, but we’re not stopping there because there’s a lot more to do. We’re a not-for-profit organisation and we’ve been around for more than 70 years. In the last few years we’ve gone through a lot of change to make MIB a progressive and dynamic place to be, with an amazing culture at the heart of everything we do. Today we’re at the start of an exciting chapter. Through the latest technologies, cross-industry partnerships and our unrivalled access to insurance data, we’re on a journey to make driving without insurance a thing of the past.
