Rank's aim is to be the UK's leading multi-channel gaming operator. We are focused on building brands with the ability to deliver them via the channels our customers prefer whether that is through one of our 154 venues, or through our online or mobile solutions.
In the markets where we operate, Rank is one of the few gaming companies in a position to provide customers with a genuine multi-channel gaming offer. We have a number of key assets, including a portfolio of 154 venues, our membership-based model with approximately three million members, our loyalty and reward programmes and the high levels of engagement that our team members enjoy with customers.
Rank has built strong positions in venue-based gaming which we seek to replicate across our digital channels (online and mobile). In 2015/16, our digital operations generated 13% of Group revenue, whereas digital channels now represent around 39% of Great Britain’s gambling market (excluding National Lottery). This presents a significant growth opportunity. We are in the process of enhancing our capability in this area such that we can meet the changing needs of our customers and capture a greater share of the digital market.
Our casino and bingo venues remain a material part of Rank’s business, providing entertainment for millions of customers each year and generating the majority of the Group’s revenue and profits. By continuing to invest in our venues (in terms of product, environment and service) and by creating new ones, we are constantly evolving and enhancing the experiences that we offer to customers, and in doing so growing our revenue.
The development of a group of well-defined, relevant and resonant brands is critical for the success of our ambition. With a business as diverse as Rank’s, our people requirements are similarly diverse. For some specialist roles, such as those in IT, Finance, Marketing, Legal, Property, Digital UX, we look for experience of role specific skills in our candidate applications that will ensure we only hire the very best talent in the market. Sometimes there is no substitute for knowledge and ‘been there done it’.
But for many other roles across our brands such as Receptionists, Croupiers, Cashiers, Team Members etc. we hire primarily for attitude, behaviour and values – with the right raw materials we know we can train in the necessary technical skills. Above all we want to be confident that every one of our customer facing employees will deliver THE most exceptional customer experience possible – and this is first and foremost down to personality.
All this means that the recruitment process needs to be flexible to accommodate the different attributes and skills we seek – so for some roles you will be invited to submit just your CV, whereas for others we may offer you the opportunity to complete a 3 dimensional online talent profile – your opportunity to stand out and promote yourself, and our opportunity to understand the person behind the CV.
Some roles will follow a structured competency based interview format designed to identify how you will operate in the role and how up to date and developed your technical skills are, whereas others will focus more on your interpersonal skills and may include assessments, role play, quizzes and getting to know our products. The office is great and very convenient. It has free parking and access to both shops and greenspace. "Walking meetings" in the park are a fab idea.
The company really goes out of its way to make staff feel valued. HQ is small enough to let you get to know most people but big enough to be dynamic.
There is a lively charity scene if you want to get involved. I didn't expect a gaming company to be so caring towards its clientele.
There are lots of 'lifers' here. Every celebration features folks who have been here for 20 years or more. Its definitely encouraging.
