Decent pay, for what you do. The more you put into your job, the more you will get out and the more you will earn. Incentivised to give good service to customers, as well as just maximising profit. Encouraged to sell ethically.

Lovely people to work with generally.

Although pay is largely performance-related, the company guarantees a minimum of the Real Living Wage.

The company founder Julian Richer, is a hugely inspirational leader with amazing values on which the company is based. As reported in the national press, he recently transferred 60% of his ownership to the company's staff.

Outstanding perks such as availability of holiday homes and staff discounts, too many perks to list here, but in general the company will do anything it can to help you if you have any problems.

Excellent communication throughout the company, well structured procedures and very good management. Regular colleague surveys to monitor morale. Management are open to receiving suggestions from all colleagues. Procedures are frequently reviewed with a 'Kaizen' approach to constantly improving how things are done.

Not a criticism of the company at all, but customers can make the job unpleasant. Although most customers are fantastic, some can be very difficult and will go as far as to throw you under the bus just to try and get a couple of quid off their purchase. By being petty, un-reasonable, exaggerating or sometimes completely inventing problems just to try it on. Thankfully the company's managers and customer service dep't will always investigate claims like this fairly, meaning you are unlikely to get into trouble unless you've actually done something wrong. However, when you experience this a few times, a member of the public seemingly prepared to threaten your livelihood just so they can save a few quid, it can be challenging not to let your view of the general public become tainted.

The shops are, in normal circumstances, open 362 days a year giving very little time off over the Christmas period. Is it really necessary for hundreds of exhausted shop staff to be back in work on Boxing Day?

    Advice to Management

There's very little that needs changing, we have a superb company! I think the policy of opening on Boxing Day & New Year's Day should be reviewed.

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Richer Sounds in May 2019.

Hiring is very 'old school', sent in a CV and cover letter, then had a follow up call with some basic questions/explaining the role. Interview was done in the show room, with the manager and another member of staff
