Description No tumbling tumbleweed, Sage Telecom has used deregulation to spread its roots beyond its home on the North Texas range. The competitive local-exchange carrier (CLEC) provides local and long-distance telephone services, as well as dial-up Internet access to customers in 12 states. It also offers broadband Internet service in select areas. Sage Telecom claims more than 500,000 residential and small business customers primarily in underserved rural and suburban markets. The company was acquired by private investment firm Silver Point Capital in 2007.
