Timeline flew while you were having fun -- assuming your idea of fun is managing financial data and analyzing budgets. Timeline made Microsoft Windows-based financial management software targeting midsized to large corporations. Its reporting, budgeting, and consolidation applications for Excel accommodated information collected through Web browsers, data marts, and e-mail. In September 2005 the company sold its software licensing operations and operating assets (including a majority of its employees) to Global Software. Timeline plans to focus on licensing its patented technology moving forward. To date, it has licensed patents to companies including Microsoft and Oracle.
