I have been working at 2U full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The culture here in unreal! Everyone talks the talk and walks the walk. Also lots of great opportunities to grow and develop while being a part of creating something amazing and good.

    Cons

Figuring out how to scale for growth and remain successful makes the day-to-day bumpy at times. Leadership is green and needs some time in role to meet their full potential.

    Advice to Management

Keep the soul in 2U! Remember that strategy and communication is key right now. Without it we descend into chaos very quickly.

I have been working at 2U full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    a) In my 30+ years as a professional, with experience at more than one Fortune 500 company, I have never seen such an efficient, timely, professional and personal hiring and on-boarding process as I was given at 2U. The Recruitment Team and Learning & Development have you set-up before Day 1 with logins and hardware, and the first three days are dedicated to on-boarding sessions, both live and pre-recorded. During...

    Cons

    * While I am learning to appreciate working in a full SaaS environment, I'm not used to the open arrangement and minimal talking. Better than half of all communication is done via Slack, or G-Chat, etc...even if the person is sitting next to you! This is a culture change for me, and I recognize that at 56yo, I am older than literally everyone in our IT-Infrastructure team! So this is not a Con for 2U, so much as a Warning...

    Advice to Management

If you are a long-timer that built the department/team to what it is today, I would ask that you trust in the people you hired, and become the Manager of Managers you worked so hard to earn. I've talked to people in various areas throughout the company, and that seems to be a common concern. I've been in that position, and understand how personal it is to step back from your creation, but to not do so limits the new staff...

I have been working at 2U full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Amazing place to work with kind, encouraging and smart colleagues. The executive teams are extremely transparent, open and honest. Managers are supportive and compassionate! Wonderful mission-driven company that is making strides in our changing education world.

    Cons

The salaries could be a little higher, though they are competitive given comparisons to other companies in this industry and much higher than working in Higher Ed.

I have been working at 2U full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Chip really cares about each and every one of us, the benefits and pay and employee appreciation events show that. I don’t feel like I’m trying to make ends meet on the entry level admissions salary.

    Cons

Admissions is viewed as bottom of the barrel. We aren’t valued the way that we should be, given that the revenue for this company wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for us. The more it grows, the less focused on student outcomes and overall mental wellness of AC’s we become, and more focused on numbers. If you miss a goal more than once, you get fired even if it was out of your control (ie demand generation, admit rate, etc)....

I have been working at 2U full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    • Wonderful team of thoughtful, supportive coworkers • Very manageable work/life balance • Collaborative environment between teammates and other depts. • Very organized and agile workflow/processes already in place • Management goes the extra mile to support job growth and opportunities • Leadership makes regular pivots to improve team processes

    Cons

My only con would be annual salary. I took a $25k pay cut to work at 2U. Although salary could be better, there are a lot of other perks at the job that make up for that.

    Advice to Management

I am somewhat concerned about how we are working to close the cost gap and help students of all socio-economic backgrounds be able to afford our graduate programs. An online degree should be able to pass more savings onto a student. I'd like to see Chip and executive leadership do more to provide access to all in a sizable way - beyond micro degrees or certifications.
