      Unstructured, disorganised idealism

      Pros

      Flexible working practices. You can pretty much set your own agenda (this can also be a con)

      Cons

      Lack of leadership, strategy and direction. The 'free' structure that the executive team are so proud can feel like a cop-out from them and does not always deliver the best results for the business with some poor decisions being made (or no decisions being made at all). Blighted by nepotism.

      Strong Development Opportunities, but Lacks Structure and Inclusivity

      Pros

      The flat structure at 4OC means that senior leadership is approachable and open to communication, which is a real plus. I also found there were excellent opportunities for professional growth. I gained exposure to multiple sectors, which significantly benefited my development, and the company has a strong mentorship programme that supports career progression—especially if you align well with the company’s culture. Additionally, the team environment is very informal and socially active, which can be great if you enjoy a laid-back work atmosphere.

      Cons

      However, the lack of a dedicated HR department was a significant issue. It led to unspoken cultural and interpersonal problems that weren’t properly addressed, and there was a lack of clear support when conflicts arose, particularly with senior colleagues. The social culture, while vibrant, isn’t always inclusive, which made it difficult for some to feel fully integrated into the team. Towards the end of my time, the company seemed to be in a state of uncertainty, which affected the overall mood and morale. I also found myself left to fend for myself after not being assigned to projects for a couple of months, which was frustrating and isolating.

      Poor leadership defined by nepotism

      Pros

      This is a company that is going somewhere. The founders are well connected, have a clear vision and are ruthless.

      Cons

      I am not joking. When I started one of the founders told me they had one rule. "don't be a ****”. I was shocked. After working with them I'm surprised - If that is how they follow the rule I dread to think what it's like when they don't.
