Pros

Decent benefits package. Little red tape, although that has been increasing. Management is friendly, as long as they like how the contract is going.

Cons

Lacks an identity. Not willing to stand up for its employees to clients. Dishonest about its intentions (now a woman owned business, in name only to get more contracts). Employees mostly stay for one contract only- no guarantee of moving elsewhere.

Pros

AE Strategies is not a massive consulting firm, and that's a good thing. Having worked at a megacorp, here's what you get at AE Strategies that you can't there: 1. Work/life balance 2. Great coworkers 3. The ability to focus on your best work (if you're not a salesperson, that's ok) 4. Great clients. By far the best federal clients and relationships I have ever had were on AE Strategies contracts. The quality of life at AE Strategies is incredible. The benefits are solid: healthcare, 401k, etc. AES will be most appreciated by experienced professionals who are tired of the rat race and politics of larger consulting firms and want to do good work without the extra hoops to jump through.

Cons

The cons depend on what you're looking for. If you want the competitive environment of a megacorp, AES is not for you. If you're all about the money, AES is not for you. AES is a better fit for people who can self-manage and already have experience in their field. You can achieve great things at AES, but you're in the driver's seat. Finally, if you have dreams of coming in and turning AES into a megacorp, you will be disappointed.

Pros

This is an company made up of 40-50 individuals who rarely see each other because the contracts are spread across the federal government. Communication is a number one priority of the company. Patrick Niehus, the founder and President treats each employee as if he/she was the only one. He runs a completely "inverted T" organization where everyone's suggestions/critiques are valued. He works hard to ensure efficiency in overhead to put more of the contract profits into the hands of employees. I have worked for several companies. AE Strategies sets the bar for employee engagement.

Cons

Nature of the beast. We don't regularly get a chance to interact with each other. This being said, Patrick prioritizes the creation of two opportunities each year to get folks together for fun and team building. He and his wife are always thinking of innovative ways to create a fun background for our events.
