AIG leadership treat staff as slaves

Pros

Nice people in teams but nothing else.

Cons

Management are being paid huge wages, but expect staff to be happy with no rises for several years. All replacement staff have to get approved specifically by Peter Zaffino personally. This is not happening so staff expected to to just do 2 or 3 jobs. Absolutely no decisions are made at the edge of the company. Even though this is the mantra. Extra workload is causing added stress and health issues for staff but AIG do not care about this. Leadership are proud that staff are working so hard. They are not able to turn around underwriting so can only control expense. Mistakes are happening because not enough spejd on staff and infrastructure. I had great faith in the new leadership but have been sorely let down. Morale is low which makes it more difficult to turn around as staff are at the end of their tether.

Pros

People most of whom try their very best to deliver despite obstacles. Scale of company gives exposure not available at national or smaller firms

Cons

Bureaucratic, disorganised, slow decision making, highly political, not collaborative, focus on short term only so bonus achieved, managers with worst behaviour tend to be promoted they manage up very well, those that know their stuff get overlooked or move companies, seem to implement then change approach & reverse every few years, or fail to deliver a critical step but expect teams to function

Pros

Good people - but then there are good people in all companies!

Cons

Lots of management (aka bureaucracy) but no leadership. No "man management". AIG have developed a new management style - "Management By Intranet"; I had more contact with the intranet telling me what's going on, or what the latest changes to strategy, organisation and personnel were, or what compulsory online course I had to do than from my own line manager. In one case I was line managed by someone for 6 months who I never met!
