Pros

-Great teachers, and administration.

Cons

-HIGH turn over rate - students, teachers, and overall employees. -Extended school year - 200 days. Start late July and end in June. (Wasn't told this until two weeks before school started) -Extended school day - classes run from 8 am - 4 pm, THEN after school starts. (Wasn't told this until school started) -They make sure to fill your whole schedule. There is no downtime at AMS. -Average benefits. -Lack of structure and direction. -No on boarding process for new teachers, no training. You are just thrown into the fire with no direction. -No common planning periods. -No mentoring program for new teachers. -Lack of transparency from network. -Will ask for employe's opinions on how to change things only then disregard the general consensus with caveat after caveat. -I've seen people move across the country for AMS and then leave within or at the end of the year. -Tatyana is no longer the CEO. -Other educational organizations know that AMS is a mess. -Burnout is real!!! -PD's are unproductive and a waste of time.

Pros

The students you are serving truly appreciate you and you know you are making a difference

Cons

The district office and most of the administrators aren’t organized and don’t communicate well to teachers. We started a school year without our main communication and grading source (PowerSchool) up and running. We did not receive our finalized class schedules until 8 weeks into the school year. Among many other things. It is a very rough atmosphere to grow and be successful in as a teacher.

Thank you for your commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of our students. We apologize for the breakdown in communication that occurred. Being a new teacher at a new campus can be a challenging but rewarding journey. We hope you will continue to work with us and we are happy to further discuss your comments if you would like to contact echavez@amsschools.org.

Potential, but so unorganized

Pros

The teaching staff is wonderful. Experienced, hard working, dedicated.

Cons

The school and network are so unorganized, no consistency, poor communication from network down. The campus is not secure. Teachers are responsible for purchasing their own supplies, but $300 doesn't go far when there are 35 children in each class. The students have major behavior/trauma issues, and there is no social/emotional support professionals on campus available. Turn over is high! From the start of the school year in July, over 20 employees (paras, teachers, and admin) are gone. When someone leaves, it is so hush hush. No one tells you, you just notice one day that they are gone and they are never spoken about again. So much potential in the school staff but it is wasted! It is clear that the admin are being worked to the bone, and I worry that they will all leave.

Thank you for your feedback and for acknowledging the incredible teaching staff. As a title one public charter school network, we do all that we can to support our staff and our students and are constantly innovating to find new ways to do so. We are deeply saddened whenever a member of our team departs and always seek to conduct exit interviews to learn why the employee left and how we can improve upon any struggles they faced.
