Terrible HR and management

Pros

The cause is brilliant, you get to meet people from all over the world who work for the movement.

Cons

Management is really poor (especially in Comms) and HR don't support staff. Unfortunately, we saw staff made redundant when heads of team decided they didn't like them. Very sad really - and the HR team at ActionAid UK just sit by and watch.

Interesting work with an ambitious organisation

Pros

- International staff have a lot of flexibility in terms of organising their work day and deciding on the focus of their work - Organisation tries very hard to ensure women are employed and there is flexibility to allow them to combine work with their caregiving role at home - Inspiring vision and strategy

Cons

- Funding challenges put pressure on staff (doing the same amount of more work with less people) - Few growth opportunities - Inequality of benefits between country offices and staff within country offices (international versus local staff salaries, duration maternity leave)

Pros

AAUK a good cause - helps thousands of people in the most vulnerable of communities and climates. Pay structure is favourable and some good benefits.

Cons

Senior management is very ego driven. Lacking in H.R leadership. Some heads seem to never be around especially on a Friday where there is no senior managers to be seen at all. People are not treated fairly and not consistent. An aggressive management style is used. Many departments are disengaged. Not a great place to work.
