Once a great place, now struggling with identity and direction

Pros

The people are genuinely the best part of this company. My colleagues were hardworking, collaborative, and made coming to work enjoyable for a long time. The team culture that employees created (not management) was what kept me there as long as I stayed.

Cons

This 20-year-old company operates like a startup but is removing all the perks that make startup life worthwhile. Here are the main issues: Compensation & Benefits: Pay is below market rate, and despite wearing multiple hats and taking on responsibilities beyond your role, compensation doesn't reflect the workload. The return-to-office mandate removed one of the few remaining flexible benefits. Career Growth: Advancement opportunities are practically non-existent. I had multiple conversations with managers about growth and career pathing, but never received concrete answers or actionable plans. If you're looking to develop your career, look elsewhere. Management & Support: The feedback cycle is virtually non-existent. Middle management feels ineffective—I couldn't get support from my direct manager on critical issues and constantly had to escalate to their manager to get anything resolved. This created unnecessary bureaucracy and frustration. Company Direction: As a PE-backed company, everything revolves around the bottom line. Sales are pushed through even when they're not the right fit, leading to high churn risk and putting unnecessary strain on delivery teams. The culture that once made this place special has evaporated. Culture Decline: The engaging, fun culture that defined this company has dried up. The average tenure now seems to be 1-2 years, and many of the people who made this place special are walking out the door.

Pros

The CEO does seem genuinely invested in employee wellbeing and company culture, at least on the surface. There are still remnants of what was once probably a great workplace culture that leadership frequently references and promotes.

Cons

Unfortunately, this company appears to be caught between two identities what it used to be and what it has become post-private equity involvement. There's been a noticeable shift in priorities, though leadership continues to promote the "people-first" culture of their earlier days. The power structure has become increasingly centralized, with two male executives now overseeing roughly half the company. The environment has become less tolerant of dissenting opinions or constructive feedback. This creates a culture of fear rather than open communication. Salaries tend to fall below market rate for the work required. Career advancement opportunities are extremely limited, as promotion essentially requires waiting for someone above you to leave the company. This creates stagnation for anyone looking to grow professionally.
