Pros
Cons
  • Middle management could use some attention, but where couldn't it (in 16 reviews)

  • Growing pains as the company has doubled in size over two years (500 to 1000 EEs); all very normal in my opinion (in 13 reviews)

By setting a very high bar in the hiring process, Appnexus makes sure its employees are incredibly smart, ambitious and passionate about Tech.

    Cons

Given the caliber of the team, you need to be comfortable with that level of challenge

I have been working at AppNexus full-time

    Pros

Agile, nimble and ready to change course. mistakes are allowed and there is a learning feedback environment

    Cons

shifting business model design hurts delivery, NYC centric with very little appreciation for global dynamics. decisions made in NYC without consultation or appreciation of the outside world. Too many managers have not worked elsewhere and so are trying to create a world from their own limited perspective. still too much landgrabbing goes on. too many decisions held at CEO level

    Advice to Management

Please get clarity on what you are offering and to whom and then get every one on board. please decentralize some decision making to empower people outside NYC.

    Pros

Great office, culture and fun environment to work in. Encourage "Teach and Learn"and sharing knowledge. Full of bright interesting people. Really enjoy working here.

    Cons

Headquarters based in NYC, can sometimes feel separated / feel like they have forgotten about remote offices. Progression is slow in London due to limited opportunities.

I have been working at AppNexus full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been incredibly happy since joining AppNexus. Some reasons:
-At the forefront of its industry
-Strong commitment to technology, product and engineering focus
-Senior management isn't walled off, on the contrary it's easy to involve them in what you're working on. We use Slack to communicate across the company from the C-level down, which really helps break down barriers.
    -Fun but serious working environment
-Colleagues are friendly, approachable, interesting, and highly impressive
-Everyone is committed to teaching you things, and expects you to teach others in return
-Strong mobility between teams and offices; expectation that everyone will change roles frequently
-We do things for the right reasons and not because of office politics
    -Openness to trying new things

    Cons

-Product and engineering groups are shorthanded in relation to the amount of work they have, creating product gaps
-Things change all the time, and you really have to work hard to keep your knowledge current
-Teams based in NYC headquarters sometimes forget about the rest of the world (scheduling meetings at inconvenient times or locations, leaving folks off invitation lists, etc.) although we're getting better on this point

    Advice to Management

Consider building more product capabilities outside the US, and as we grow make sure we don't lose the things that made us great in the first place.
