Pros

There are many great employees that work there and have alot of talent. All people are very dedicated because they want to do good work and build reputation.

Cons

Employees are not allowed to reach their potential. Teams micro managed by upper management. CEO is irrational with big ego and not know how to run a company. Company growth is restricted. A joke at company is CEO swoops and poops on everything and causes much stress, frustration and un-necessary fire drills with employees

Pros

The company offers a lot of good stuff: - You will have a kitchen full of food and beverages. - The company supports the software community in Florianopolis. - They can buy you books and, maybe, courses. Ask your manager :) - You can work from home Friday. - Flexible working hours. - Excellent pieces of equipment to work. - A lot of nice projects to work with.

Cons

ArcTouch is a great company becoming another standard company. When I just joined ArcTouch, few skills were really important: -Self-management -Be able to communicate (with customer and colleagues) -Learn fast (and by yourself) -Team player Those things were really amazing. How everyone was so smart, how the pace was so fast. Unfortunately, things have been changing. -A lot of hierarchy has been created -Managers are always trying to remind about commitment and working hours -Leaders are becoming boss -New employees have a "peer buddy" What do I mean by a leader becoming a boss? Since everyone was able to manage themselves, we had a lot of freedom and the communication always happened straight from engineering team to management/execs. We never had to think about how we are asking, what we are asking. It’s a matter of working in a team. If it’s a question important for the team, it could be done in front of everyone, it could happen anytime, in any meeting that makes sense. Also, some people in the leadership position, they just think they are the boss. Asking people questions that don't concern them. Or, sometimes, trying to give orders. Some leaders just can’t have a conversation with anyone. They are always right and just because they said so. The company definitely doesn’t like people who think or make questions. I see a lot of employees, talking to each other about: How the current managers want leaders that just do what they ask without question it. Do you like to give your point of view? Suggest nice things? Forget about it. If you talk too much, point problems or suggest a lot, stay prepared to be the “complainer”. Also, if your dream is to live in another country, do yourself a favor and do it by any other way. ArcTouch gives very few opportunities to leave the country with a working visa. But there are VERY FEW opportunities. I’ve seen people working there over than 5 years asking for it and they just don’t have the chance. But once again, my first phrase can summarize this whole review: ArcTouch is a great company becoming another standard company. I hope the company keeps improving and fix the small issues they have!

One of the values that we adhere to closely at ArcTouch is transparency. I have never worked at a company that has such open, honest, two-way communication. While I applaud this employee for voicing their concerns, if they truly want to effect change they should bring their complaints and suggestions to the Leadership Team who are always open to change. The door is open....just knock.

Pros

We have great projects from well-know brands, the VP of Engineering is very smart, on Thursday we stop earlier to have beer and talk about the projects, weekly we have tech-talks, fully-kitchen and free snacks. Good healthcare, dental care, gym discount, free parking, no dress code, it's allowed to work from home on Fridays, co workers are very friendly and approachable. There's a PS4 with Fifa Soccer.

Cons

The company was acquired a few months ago and initially, it shouldn't change the culture. Previously, we were self-manageable team, which is great, but now, they created managers role which is very useless. We should have inspiring leaders/conversation, not boring ones. The company should avoid IBM/HP culture and be more like Google / Facebook. Otherwise, the best developers will leave the company. There are not many restaurants around so we usually go to the same place, everyday.

It should be noted that while it is true we were acquired in January, we have worked hard to retain our company culture. This is clear in the list of "Pros" in this review. About a year ago, all employees were given the opportunity to give their feedback to senior management one-on-one and the consistent theme was a "lack of feedback". We recently appointed team leads (not managers) to help provide some of that feedback. We are also in the process of hiring an Engineering Manager for the Florianópolis office so that the level of feedback and development will be what our staff is asking for and deserves. We take these reviews seriously and work hard to respond not only to the comments but to the situations that are creating them. Thanks to the reviewer for speaking up!
